“SKYLOSOPHOS” is a film-epic about a young filmmaker who wants to make a documentary with the passion and freedom of a film d' auteur. A film in a film that combines parody and documented historical drama.
We explore a Greece that is unknown to the large audience. We visit our country as it was in the 17th century. To lead the way is a bishop, called in his time DIONYSIOS PHILOSOPHOS. In 1611 he attempted a revolt against the ottoman rule at Ioannina. After that revolt had been suppressed Dionysios not only was flayed alive but he also got the pejorative nickname: SKYLOSOPHOS - Dog's philosopher.
Two hundred years later Dionysios’ dream came true and Greece obtained independence.
Four hundred years later Gregoire and his uncle scout locations for a documentary about Dionysios. During their trip the rebellion’s leader, and other historical ghosts like that of Maximus the Peloponnesian, a priest monk who was Dionysios’ friend to later become his fierce opponent, creep into the story like witnesses. Their accounts mingle truth and lies while Dionysios remains silent. Under their influence Gregoire and his uncle start to disagree and they risk to end up as enemies.
