When deaf teenager Valmira comes to live to her father’s island away from her special Athens school, she faces the possibility of prejudice and discrimination. Aris, a Bulgarian boy, offers to become her friend, but his status as “other” makes him unwanted company for her. Instead she mixes up with his worst enemy, xenophobe Marios. When Marios falls ill Aris does an act of profound humanity forcing Valmira to “listen” - though not necessarily with her ears - to the truth of those around her as much as of herself.
